The 13th season of the UFC's reality program, The Ultimate Fighter, made its debut on Wednesday, March 30th on Spike TV.
The latest season of TUF showcases 14 welterweight hopefuls who are divided into two teams of seven. One team is coached by former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, while the other is coached by highly ranked Junior dos Santos.
According to MMAJunkie.com, the show pulled in 1.5 million viewers and it was the No. one ranked cable television program in the 9 PM time slot among men 18-49.
The 1.5 million viewers that watched the premier of season 13 was 100,000 less than watched the debut of season 12.
The drop in viewers has led some to remark that the TUF franchise is dying.
There is one person who feels differently about the strength of TUF, UFC president Dana White, who took to The Underground forum to respond to those who have been criticizing the show.
White posted, "SINCE WHEN IS 1.5 MILLIONS VIEWERS BAD? People have been saying it is dead since season 4. Sit back and watch b***hes or don't. TUF isnt going anywhere!!!! deal with it."
The Ultimate Fighter season 13 will conclude on June 4.
On June 11, Lesnar and Dos Santos will meet at UFC 131, with the winner moving on to face current UFC heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez.
